Our Club is an association of retired and semi-retired professional and business men and women, who appreciate opportunities to meet others with similar interests. Our talks, from invited speakers and members, are on a variety of topics from the serious to the light-hearted, from the mysterious to the adventurous. They include subjects from the arts, science, history, geography, biography and sport. Every two weeks a member of our group conducts local walks. At Christmas we celebrate with a lunch. You are free to choose which meetings and events you attend. Our annual subscription is £45.
From time to time we organise events, and over the past few years, for example, have been to visit:
- The Oriental Museum, Durham, March 2024
- The Water Pumping Station, Darlington, October 2023
- Kirkleatham Museum, Redcar, November 2022
- Fylingdales Early Warning Base, Whitby, June 2022
- The SUEZ waste-to-energy plant in Haverton Hill, Stockton-on-Tees, February 2020
- The Roman remains at Binchester, Bishop Auckland, July 2019
Our meetings are held at the West End Bowling Club, Darlington Road, Hartburn TS18 5BE at 9:30am for a 10:15am start, see map, and end at about noon. They are on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, between September and June. After the meeting, some members go to lunch at a local hostelry.
Probus Clubs have no central governing body, are non-political and non-sectarian. As an organisation, we do not directly participate in fund-raising activities for charity.
